Talks

I love sharing my passion and am happy to give talks to general interest or crafts groups and talks or workshops to spinning groups

My ‘talks’ suitcase loaded with fibre, yarns and finished items

For general interest groups

Fleece, fibre and fairy tales

A lively interactive talk suitable for everyone, any gender, any age.

Learn a little about the history and process of spinning, handle different fibres – from the coarse wool of a Herdwick sheep suitable only for rugs to the extra-long fibres of flax used to make linen. Marvel at the length of a Wensleydale fleece – great for santa beards and dolls hair or beautiful spinning. Hear the ‘truth’ about Sleeping Beauty and Rumpelstiltskin.

For craft groups

Spinning a yarn, Fleece to fabric, Colour to Dye for

I can tailor the talk to your interests, my greatest passion is spinning but other fibre related crafts, dyeing, weaving and felting,  are not far behind.  I can include a demonstration of spinning with a wheel and drop spindle with the option for members to have a go.  For weaving talks I will bring a small loom and again members can try their hand.

For spinning groups

Talks or Workshops Back to basics, Woollen and worsted, Luxury fibre, Plant fibres, Art yarns

I really enjoy woollen spinning – both American and English long draw.  I am also fond of flax, cotton, silk and fancy yarns but happy to discuss the basics, plying, finishing. Blending workshops for larger groups are great fun too.
