A fun day learning about flax, suitable for spinners who have mastered the basics

Flax
We will look at spinning long line flax from a towel as well as making and dressing a distaff. We will card and spin tow – the short fibre from preparing the line flax. You will also have a chance to spin flax top and bleached top. We will look at finishing flax and discuss how it can be used in weaving. I have a number of antique flax wheels including a double flyer wheel. You may use these if you wish.




By the end of the day you will have
- Made and dressed a distaff
- Spun line flax, tow and top
- Finished and re-skeined some of your spinning

- Flax pack with a strick, top and tow

- wheel or you may borrow one
- lazy kate
- spare bobbins
- pen and paper
- packed lunch
- Arrive 9.30 for introductions and welcome drink and biscuits
- 12.30 lunch (Bring a packed lunch)
- Course finishes 4.00pm
