A fun day learning about silk, suitable for spinners who have mastered the basics

We will prepare and spin – a variety of silks from smooth tops to textured throwster’s  waste, the long fibres of silk hankies and the super short silk noil; finishing with brightly coloured recycled sari silk.

You will have a chance to degum cocoons and make ‘hankies’,

by the end of the day you will

  • have spun silk fine and thick, smooth and textured
  • tried a number of silk preparations
  • made a silk ‘hankie’
  • had the opportunity to buy more supplies

Course includes

Tea and coffee, biscuits and cake

Fibre pack with a range of fibre and preparations

Please bring

  • Wheel or borrow one for the day
  • Lazy kate,
  • Spare bobbins,
  • Pen and paper,
  • Packed lunch
  • Arrive 9.30 for introductions and welcome drink and biscuits
  • 12.30 lunch (Bring a packed lunch)
  • Course finishes 4.00pm
